It's been a big weekend at the Little house. Friday night we had the Irvington School Auction. A grand time, and a big take for the school... more than 100k raised! Wow. I was in charge of pulling together Zack's class project -- a couple of hand-decorated lamps which fetched $650. Not bad! Zack broke in a brand new babysitter and everybody survived.
The next morning was T-Ball, Oregon style. This is a picture from last week's warm, sunny game. This week was cold and rainy. Our impervious, web-footed kids hardly noticed the difference.
Last night Zack's teacher, Jessica, came over for dinner with her husband Cullen. Zack had already informed us that he "makes fake arms" for a living. He is, in fact, a builder of prosthetic limbs. Very interesting.
Zack planned the menu: steak asparagus and rice, with strawberry shortcake for dessert. Zack was beside himself that his very own teacher was here at OUR house. He couldn't even speak for about the first hour. By the end of the evening he was his usual charming self, though.
This morning we had an "18th Ave. Kibbutz" breakfast with our neighbors the Nelsons and the Duncan-Doroffs. Holly and Sue hosted, and we went down and made a Family Pancake in their oven. Rob showed up with authentic boiled bagels and a couple of bottles of champagne.
Brunch ended just in time to zip downtown with Zack's friend Clayton and his mom to see the Oregon Children's Theatre production of "The Boxcar Children." The boys loved it. Clayton's mom was co-chair of the aforementioned school auction, and she looked visibly relieved to be on the other side of it.
After the show the boys set up a lemonade and cookie stand in front of the house and made big bucks. Jim just arrived home from a day at the gliderport and now the boys are headed for a nice long bath, in hopes of removing at least one of the layers of grime from this glorious weekend.
